In 20+ years of experience working in personal training, one piece of advice has proven indispensable:
JUST KEEP GOING.
Once you muster the effort to begin exercising, don’t stop and start.
Keep. It. Up.
Taking that first step – doing your first workout – is the hardest part of your fitness journey.
The next step is – DON’T STOP.
Take it slow at the beginning. Especially if you’re brand new to exercising. Aim to do a couple of workouts per week for whatever length of time feels comfortable.
As you grow stronger and become more at ease – with the gym, lifting weights, cardio, or whatever exercise you choose to focus on – increase the number of times you workout each week and the length of time you train.
Eventually, you’ll find yourself consistently exercising 3-5 times per week, for 1-2 hours per session.
Here’s my second most valuable piece of advice (which I admit is a bit self-serving) – The best way to stick with a training program, make exercise a consistent routine, and achieve your fitness goals is working with a trainer.
