Spring is the season of rebirth and renewal. The sun reappears. Temperatures rise. And folks are eager to get outdoors, enjoy nature, and generally be more active.
All of which are huge positives!
But at the same time, it feels like positivity is in short supply these days. Especially considering we’ve lived with overwhelming instability for more than half a decade.
Two turbulent Presidential election cycles; a global pandemic that’s lasted over two years and claimed millions of lives; and now innocent civilians are dying (seen in unsettling images splashed on the nightly news) as Russia invades Ukraine.
So, although spring may have arrived, you might not be feeling much of a spring in your step.
In turn, this begs the question: How do you stay positive amid so much uncertainty?
The answer… It all comes down to intention.
For most of us, perspective is our guiding principle. How we choose to see the world generally informs our attitudes, demeanor, and interactions with those around us.
Personally, staying active, focusing on fitness, and maintaining my physical, mental, and spiritual well-being have always been my key intentions.
And I can’t recommend this approach enough to anyone striving to stay positive.
To help guide you, here are some suggestions to light your path toward positivity:
1. Begin Each Day Clearing Your Mind
When you arise in the morning, reset your mind and set your intentions for the day ahead. You can accomplish this by writing in a journal, meditating, or just taking a brisk walk around your neighborhood.
2. Exercise Regularly
Regular exercise is a crucial ingredient to looking and feeling good, not to mention ensuring you’re physically fit. Activities like Pilates, yoga, and weight training, along with cardio, including jogging, cycling, and swimming can all help you stay fit.
3. Get Consistent Rest
Your nightly slumber recharges your batteries. Without it, you’re bound to feel sluggish and irritable. Thus, striving for 8 hours of restful sleep (as often as possible) will bolster your physical and mental health.
4. Eat A Well-Balanced Diet
Too often, we skip meals, over-eat, and put the wrong foods in our bodies. Meanwhile, this is a recipe for looking bad and feeling worse. Instead, plan healthy meals and eat when you’re hungry, not when appetite dictates.
5. Indulge in Self-Care
Treat yourself to occasional luxuries that simply make you feel good. A massage, a spa day full of beauty treatments, getting a manicure and pedicure, and refreshing your wardrobe with stylish new clothes can all provide a much-needed boost.
